MAUI!!! (week2)

Week 2 we spent in beautiful Napili! About a 15 minute drive north from Kaanapali and Lahaina, not quite so congested, but just as beautiful. We rented condos and enjoyed morning walks into town, looked at enormous sea turtles from the beach, visited the Honolua rain forest and Nakalele Blowhole (which we did last year too!), and let Timmy and Matty battle each other with their water cannons. By the end of the trip, yours truly had a pretty decent tan, Jim's freckles grew to the point where he actually looked like he had some color, and I made sure Timmy and Gemma were just as neon skinned as they were when we left Seattle:)
Walking through the Honolua rain forest
Timmy found all the vines fascinating.  And all the wild chickens!
No matter where we go, Gemma always manages to wreak havoc in the bathroom.
The kiddos with Nanni and Poppi on the beach in front of our condo. We could see enormous sea turtles out there all the time.

By the end of our stay in Maui, Gemma was walking nearly 70% of the time! Got Timmy beat by a good couple months! (And as of today writing this post, 2/22, she's entirely dropped crawling.  Almost bitter sweet...she's more and more like a toddler everyday.)
Timmy's water cannon. Hours of entertainment...

Family picture! On our way to the Nakalele Blowhole.
The water shot over 40 feet into the air that day. No way could I get Timmy to look at the camera.
Jim got in some great boogie boarding at Fleming Beach. This picture doesn't do the waves justice. They were pretty crazy.

Old Town Lahaina...on our last night in Maui. Out for dinner, walked along the waterfront, and had some of the most delicious ice cream ever! Banana, macadamia nut, toffee crunch. Yes, I get some people don't like banana-flavored anything. I am definitely not one of those people. No joke, it was awesome. And now that I'm the proud new owner of an ice cream machine (thank you MOM!!!) I'm going to try and recreate that pure ice cream heaven at home.  If it turns out good, I'll post the recipe:)

A fantastic two weeks, but it felt great to get home and sleep in our own beds. Jim and I learned the hard way that our darling Gemma is quite capable of screaming her little heart out for about 5 hours of a 6 hour flight back to Seattle.  Ugh.... Thankfully, Timmy was a total trooper again. Needless to say, by the time we rolled into the driveway (at 2:30 a.m.!!!) we gave new meaning to the word 'exhausted'.
